I love fresh air, big skies and the visceral experience of the world around me.
I seek beauty everywhere – the crooked tree, the muddy marsh, thundery skies. I find it in a quirky jaded vase, or a patterned jug, full of character and life.
I seek to make that which is ordinary - through attention and care - into something beautiful, finding that unique colour or flash of light that will ignite joy in the heart of the viewer.
In life and art, I love the honest, raw experience. I celebrate our full colourful unique nature, the world around us, wild and free, the dark accentuating the light.
I remember, as I work, the surge of a wave, fleeting clouds, the iridescent light on wet sand. Like us, nature can seem flawed, raw and imperfect. Like us, it is all the more beautiful for it.
Billy Connolly described our glorious landscape as ”a place where ‘beautiful’ isn’t enough of a word”. I hope my work becomes a window into that beauty, and that the joy I feel making these paintings pulses through long after the seasons turn. I hope you the viewer are transported, as I am in their making.
