DOROTHY BLACK

Dorothy exhibits widely and her work is held in many private and public collections. A visual artist working from her studio in rural Fife, Dorothy uses a range of media and techniques with powerful draughtsmanship always at the core. Subject matter varies from natural forms, still life, pattern and print, figure and portrait.

Often working large scale, she continuously endeavours to capture the figure in movement creating power, drama and impact in a pose. The same approach applies to large scale botanical studies with similarities in the lines, shapes and structure of organic forms and the figure. Dorothy is fascinated with capturing botanical twists and turns and how they change over time from bud to withered form.

Dorothy enjoys contrasts - this may be the solidly drawn structure of a pose alongside freer painterly handling on a dress or mixing media, employing printing techniques with drawn and painted elements to create a vibrant, expressive visual statement.
