Kit Martin is by nature, curious. A photographic artist who enjoys making images as much as taking them, she has been known to try to capture the overlapping contingencies of time and place through photography using natural elements like the sun and tide.
She works with historical camera-less processes and digital, collaborating with museums and scientists. She likes to celebrate the underdog in nature. Kit shares the processes of cyanotype, argyrotype and pinhole photography with other people and is a tutor at Dundee Contemporary Arts Print Studio, Off The Rails Arthouse and Museums and Galleries Edinburgh amongst others.
Kit was winner of the Richard Coward Scottish Portrait Award in Photography in 2022. She has twice been an invited artist with CONTACT Photo Festival in Toronto and for Analogue Dreams in Aberdeen. As a member of Shutterhub Kit has exhibited in the UK and Europe and is featured in their book Yearbook 2020 & 2022. Having recently completed an MFA in Art, Science & Visual Thinking she is collaborating with Dundee Botanic Garden and the James Hutton Institute developing work around the River Tay, its communities and entanglements with the natural world and (underpinning all else) microorganisms in our soils.
