RONA STEPHEN

"The personal is the universal", Carl Rogers. Winter in Portugal, located on the North Atlantic coast, primarily surrounded by rough cliff coastlines, and alternating between fine sand beaches, was to allow me to indulge my natural senses and to engage in the physics of Nazare’s 100ft high waves.

To integrate a different language can also be an exciting and new interpretation of approaching the canvas. However, I realised very quickly, to fully understand the constructs of waves, undermines the natural senses. In order to tune in to the harmony I could feel around me, the doors of perception opened wider than I could generally comprehend. The big seas, skies, cliffs and beaches were a constant source of inspiration which compelled me to engage in recording the rhythms and varieties of patterns which this beautiful country boasts.
