HENDERSON-INGLIS BURSARY

SUPPORTING EMERGING ARTISTS

Are you passionate about a career in the arts? The Henderson-Inglis Bursary at the Pittenweem Arts Festival offers a unique opportunity for emerging artists like you. This award is not just a prize; it’s a stepping stone to establishing your career in the arts. The Henderson Bursary is named in honour of David Henderson and Sheila Inglis's long-term support. This is a practical, valuable opportunity for any emerging artist looking to make a mark.

This bursary is open to:

  • All emerging artists/craftspeople including students in their final year of study or graduates from a degree/HND/or Further Education.
  • Students who have completed arts and crafts courses in the last 3 years.
  • Self-taught artists who have set up their practice in the last 3 years.

The Henderson-Inglis Bursary provides an emerging artist with accommodation and exhibition space in a prime location on the shorefront during the Pittenweem Arts Festival (2-9 August 2025). The successful candidate will receive a £750 payment towards expenses.

The selection panel are given all bursary applications, images and CVs. They then vote on their choices for the successful candidate. Other than the requirement for the candidate to be an emerging artist, they have complete discretion as to how they vote.

This year we are also offering a shared exhibition during the festival to the shortlisted artists. This will be in The Artist Rooms on the high street which is a beautiful gallery space.

2024 WINNER AND RUNNERS UP

JENNIFER ALFORD

Jennifer grew up in Dublin and studied violin and music at the Royal Irish Academy of Music and University College Dublin. At the potter’s wheel, she creates contemporary ceramics in porcelain and stoneware. Leveraging abstract creative processes learned through studying and performing music, Jennifer endeavours to allow for moments of chance and the unexpected to find their way into her ceramic practice.
