Specialising in producing the most highly detailed pen and ink drawings, I am inspired by my design background in jewellery and metalwork.
All drawings feature a strong sense of balance, demand much consideration in subject matter and a very controlled drawing technique. The composition of my somewhat illustrative images is always key to the success of the finished work, yet sometimes the image is allowed to develop on the paper without planning, a form of controlled 'designing' as the image emerges. I have a very keen interest in timepieces and objects which measure time, layering drawn mechanical workings in elaborate and imagined arrangements. This is a recurring theme which owes itself to a visit in 1995 to one of my favourite places of interest, ‘the Museum of the History of Science’ in Oxford.
I like to incorporate such things as birds and plant forms to create a visual reference to nature's relationship with the concept and passing of time. Nature provides so much pleasure and wonder and is inspirational to all.
