I am a contemporary artist based near Glasgow and I work with acrylics and mixed media. My work is inspired by the spectacular colours of Scotland’s west coast and the rhythms of the changing seasons. I work from the principle that if a painting brings me joy to create then hopefully the viewer will feel that too!
As a born dreamer and hopeless romantic I like to paint places from my imagination, beaches I’ve yet to discover as well as favourite destinations with special memories. Being a musician has a big influence on my work. Composition, rhythm, harmony and repetitive patterns are all evident in my pictures. Colour is such a mood changer that I try to paint a scene that has emotional response rather than being an exact reproduction of what we see.
I start with a multicoloured base on which I build layers of collage including music, words and patterns. I then scrape back to let the base colours filter through.
DOG FRIENDLY | VENUE 26 | 10:00 - 17:00
'Daisies in Dornie' is painted with acrylics and collage. Various colours are layered on and scratched into to give an ethereal effect.
'Colmcille'. (Columba) is a wee boat I saw resting on the shores of Gigha. I love to imagine the adventures that would await if you could navigate around uninhabited islands.
'Through the Arched Window'. A sunset seen through Campbell's Tomb on Kintyre looking across to Jura. The best place for a campfire and a ceilidh!
